On Location last night at Dooney’s in The Annex, Adam Vaughn of CityTV and host of HourTown broadcast a special live edition of his show.
Shortly before 9 pm, friends and family members gathered at the cafe for the televised celebration and reflection on Jane Jacobs’ life and work on the eve of what would have been her 90th Birthday.
Present last night were former mayor of Toronto Barbara Hall, and current [MegaCity] mayor of Toronto, David Miller, as well as Spacing creative director Matt Blackett and Steve Munro. They and others shared memories and discussion with Adam about what Jane Jacobs meant to Toronto and to them personally.
Ned Jacobs, Jane’s son, strolled in shortly after the show began and I was fortunate enough to share a few moments with him at our table. I showed him printed copies of some of your online posted memorial messages. Ned is deeply appreciative of all your sentiments.
The photo above is of Ned speaking with Adam Vaughn.

Because today, Thursday May 4th, 2006, would have been Jane Jacobs’ 90th birthday, you can give yourself a present by re-reading her insightful works or reading them perhaps for the first time.
Happy Birthday Jane!
